ANOTHER LOCKED COSTUME FOR YOUR DREAMS
Girl
I want you to remember me
Not as I am
Or not as I was
But as a representation of yourself
In your future dreams
I want you to change me
To be a piece of your psyche
A locked costume
For your dreams
You will recall what I meant to you
As you relating to a part of you
You will observe my face
And it will be a mask
Over your own face
Hold on to me in your memory
As a residue of a feeling
Use me as skin in dreams
Another locked costume for your dreams
As this image I will find
Comfort in the hallways of your mind
Of your mind
Of your mind
Of your mind
(At the top of a staircase
in a hallway in your mind--
Leaning against the walls in your mind)

FLUSH IT (THE GREAT BROOM)
My, the floor is dusty
Animal hair, leaf debris, soil from the yard
Lo'! what's that?
It's coming right over here
It's a broom
The Great Broom
The broom, the Great Broom
The Great Broom sweeps through
And it takes the dirt away
That bad broom sweeps down
Sweeps up (the dusty, dirty) the mess of crumbs on the ground
Its rigid bristles like the shaggy tooth of a whale
Screening out the krill
Oh, what was he saying?
The Dust Pan man?
I'll tell you what he's saying
What he's saying is
He's saying
Flush it
Flush it
He's saying "Flush it"
Flush it out
Flush it out with that bad broom
The broom, the Great Broom
That bad broom glides over the floor
Flushing out the hair in the corner
With unforgiving yellow bristles that are never in repose
The Great Broom leaves clean streaks in all the places in goes

Star Light

STAR LIGHT
(You can look off the side of the world
and see the signs of other worlds afar)--
Star light
Falls into my eye
Stopping at the bottom of my eye
All the faraway stars travel apart
To remote space
Through places where there had been nothing
Ever more dissolute in the abyss
A star throws its light --
As senseless as the dot of winking white
That I can plainly see in the sky
Star light
Came such a long way
To end in my eye
There is my eye
A wave-particle in my eye
And there's the space
Between where the star was and my eye
Star light
Stopping at the bottom of my eye
I read in the night sky
the signs of the traveling pieces of the universe
Having traveled at unimaginable speed
through the cold dark empty lands of outer space
For many millions of years, toward my eye
The star light falls in the bottom of my eye
And to think of my face
As up against the edge of this deep space
Star light
Crashing into the bottom of my eye

The Stone of Prehistory
04:02
|
|||
THE STONE OF PREHISTORY
The stone of prehistory
Held in the palm of time
Held even today
As a smooth bead of sand
Entropy filling in the valleys
With rubble from mountaintops
Like hot coffee over ice
The atoms rub off the stone
Refacing the prehistoric tableau
As hot coffee poured on ice
Will settle into a tepid mean
The non-petrified matter
As fragile as a boulder
The pitchfork turns it over
Sand of the past in hand
Time is kind

The Windows Are Closed
03:47
|
|||
THE WINDOWS ARE CLOSED
Down down down down
Down down down down
The swallows
Floating down to the bottom of the sky
The shallows
Safe ground to tadpoles and fish fry
Floating down
Bobbing along
The wind blows
Blows and blows
High pressure tails after low
The third plateau
A cabin in a white out storm
Chaotic blindness
Chaotic blindness over synaptic snow
The wind blows
Blows and blows
High pressure tails after low
The wind blows
Blows and blows
But the windows are closed
A story of how its just so
The wind blows but the windows are closed
Floating down like snow to the bottom of the sky
Do you weary of ego?
Dissociate, let go
Travel below

THE QUESTIONER APPEARED TODAY AGAIN
With a shroud of purple mist as per the Illiad
The Questioner assumes a guise to gad
The Questioner appeared today again
And asked his, asked his question
The question from outside of time
Makes real people act out its mime
Somebody's asking that question again
The lightswitch tripped
A landscape panorama
A scrambler
The consequence of an answer
A question will change the Answerer
The Answerer defers
Til the question returns
(Here comes that question again)
The Questioner appeared today again
And asked his, asked his question
Again and again its the same question on repeat
Asked across a lifetime to the Answerer's retreat
As it asks it tells here you are
Suggesting the way to a new answer
The purple mist lifts
The Questioner for once satisfied
Goes quiet

IMAGES OF OTHER PEOPLE
I caught myself
Talking to myself
About the nature of people besides myself
I told myself
I bought what I sold myself
I caught myself telling it to myself
Other people, that's what I'm talking about
"Say, hey
Would you give me the time of day?"
Who are these other people?
Tell me, Dave
Who are these other people
Talking about, singing about?
Try to tell me about these
These other people
They must be out there
Somewhere beyond the door
Somewhere on this quiet block
Another
The other people are talking about the other people
Try to tell me about these
These other people
You can see with your mind how they pass their time
The rich meanings in their lives
Who are these other people
Singing about, talking about?
Images of other people

I CAUGHT THE BUS TO THE SHIT TOWN BLUES
Baby baby baby
Feed me the placebo baby
They say it's not my cure
But it goes down like a lure
A placebo is good medicine
Give me sax back, baby
I got to go downtown
And play the shit town blues
I caught the bus
To the shit town blues
Playing my saxophone
In a bluesy mood
The downtown shit town blues
Great blue heron baby
You take the box of tackle
And walk it over to me
I'm gonna belt out the ook
I'm going to fill the bus with bluegills
Just let me tie on the right hook
I'm waiting for the bus
that goes away from the shit town blues
Just a'riffin' on my saxophone
In a bluesy mood
The downtown shit town yodel-ay-ee blues

THE REAL WORLD LINGERS GRIMLY
Women and men are parts of a creature
That sleeps on the ground at night
It breaks the laws of people and nature
While asleep in the real world at night
The creature is dreaming in its sleep
At work building in rest
What does the unconscious monster reap
Sinking a trowel beneath its flesh
The real world at night lingers grimly
The rememberer of all living things, Death
Comes over the slumberer
And all people stop dreaming forever

I'MA WALKING THROUGH A TOWN IN MY MIND
900 miles away and half a life ago
There was a small town where I used to roll
(Though today it's all but erased
It was a real place)
Except before I left I walked the town into memory
And since then have carried it along the way with me
Though much water has flowed since I tendered my goodbye
Sometimes I still walk those streets with the legs of the mind
I'ma walking through a town in my mind
Block by block not in real time
I'ma dreamin I can see
The thickness of the trunks of every tree
The grade of the street
The things left out in yards
I make believe to be at
The antique store
The water tower
Years ago when I was there
I walked it block by block
I walked each way until I hit the crops
Until I hit the acreage of corn stalks
I'ma walkin past the best places in town
The traintracks the sidewalks the silos the pond
Parks and porches to the limits of town
Where the crops go on and on and on and on and on and on and on
I remember that town almost perfectly
I have it down to the cemetery
Plot by plot of the cemetery
Where the good graves are in the cemetery
Six states away and quite a long time ago
There was a small town where I used to roll
I sauntered all over that town recreationally
And during the age since have carried it along the way with me
Though much water has flowed since I tendered my goodbye
Still I walk through to the margins of town
With the shoes on my with the feet of my with the legs in my mind
